Biography

I am Petra Verlooy (born 1955). Since my childhood I paint and draw animals, as I am fascinated by their shape, movements, attitude, behaviour, fur and colour, but especially their faces.
I spend a lot of time with animals. I live amidst meadows, farms and watch the farm animals. I also visit the Dutch Zoos like Diergaarde Blijdorp many times and draw the animals. At home I transfer the drawings into paintings of oil and/or acrylic. In my paintings the animals are present either physically or symbolic. The background is always abstract to express the harmony with their surroundings. As many animals extinct nowadays I try to attract attention for animals on this planet.
I studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and at the Academy of Art Design in Tilburg, The Netherlands.
